Horror in Hopkinsville (1001)

You’ll find out the answer in this debut adventure, “Horror in Hopkinsville.”
Inside you’ll find eight pre-generated character cards, maps, player aids, and a fun night of horror gaming. FRIGHTSHOW CLASSICS adventures are designed to be compatible with percentile horror roleplaying game systems of yesterday and today. Rules-light, follow-along instructions also allow our modules to be played on their own without the need for additional rulebooks.
“He didn’t know what to make of the sounds at first. “Racoons, probably,” he thought, trying to assure himself that the knowledge of the natural world he had earned through those tedious years of growing up on a local farm would be enough.
But then other noises followed. Loud, chittering sounds came from the roof of his otherwise quiet suburban home, something for which his childhood failed to prepare him. He was sure there was more than one. But what were they? For a second his mind raced to the movies. Alien creatures attacking a farmhouse. Hadn’t a nearby family reported some strange attack like that in the 50s?
As quickly as it entered, the impossible thought left him. It had to be something normal. Yanking a flashlight out of the closet, he angrily stomped outside, hoping his loud, deliberate motions would scare the critters away from the house for now. He saw nothing in the light, and once again all was quiet. Then she screamed his name from the window.”

The dark shape with glowing eyes approaches as you lie helpless. You try desperately to move, knowing that you must in order to stop this evil, malevolent thing from attacking. Still the entity nears. A scream forms but doesn’t come out.
The creature is pressing down upon you. Its eyes are all the more horrifying, and now you can make out a hag-like face. “She” has a menacing smile, and apparently is whispering something.
You feel that if you don’t move soon, you will die from sheer fright...
Known by many names across many cultures, the entity commonly referred to as the “old hag” has been a literal nightmare for humanity for centuries. Now it stalks the streets of Stockton, California, returning to locations still haunted by its presence decades before. Spectral forces have invaded the Central Valley. “Supernatural folklore tells of large, spectral black dogs, often harbingers of disaster and death. The creatures have a particularly strong presence in African American lore of the South. But what is the ghostly white hound that stalks the lonely Bowers Road “noose” of rural South Carolina, an entity known locally as the Graveyard Dog?
On a bright, moonlit night, a young man is savaged by the creature, which leaves no trace of its existence aside from the vicious wounds it inflicts. The man’s girlfriend is left terrified of a monstrous canine with glowing, white eyes. Local lore speaks of several dark events of the past that are said to be linked to the beast: vigilante justice, murder, Satanic sacrifice. And legends and reports persist of a large, black hound with bright, red eyes that illuminate the backroads west of Charleston.
What is the secret of the Graveyard Dog? Will you brave its wooded haunts for a chance to witness the notorious spectral canine? The harrowing howl of the Bowers Road beast is especially bone chilling. Best take a friend.”
